FRAZIONE
OF THE COMMUNE OF UGENTO
This frazione rises on the Ionic coast and it has the same
name of the tower built around 1500. This tower has
 got
an octagonal shape and you can enter inside through a small staircase: during
the past it was restored a lot of times. The Church of the Madonna dell'Aiuto
was built in the same century. In ancient times Torre St. Giovanni was inhabited
above all by fishermen, but because of the frequent Turkish raids, it was
abandoned. Today it is a tourist place: here there are a wonderful sea, villages
and receptive facilities that favour the tourism, above all during the summer
season.
