Castiglione is a small village under the administration of
Andrano. We are not certain about the origins
of
this village. According to some hypotheses, anciently, on the territory there
was a castle of the city of Vaste. After the destruction of this city, a group
of fugitives came to live close to the castle, built their houses and the
village grew bigger and bigger. The village was ruled
by the Fondachis, the Castriota Scanderbergs and the Baciles. Among the people
of Castiglione we remember: Luigi Riccio lived in the 18th century,
was Governor of Gallipolis, and wrote several works. Gregorio De Luca lived in
the same century, he specialized in Law and Theology then became Vicar of the
Bishop of Castro. Francesco Saverio D’Ambrogio was an appreciated priest. He
wrote several works and lived helping his neighbour.
