OF THE COMMUNE OF SANNICOLA
Chiesanuova and San Simone are the two
small villages under the administration of Sannicola. Chiesanuova was built near the
first "casini". In
 the
past it was divided into two zones called "Sargente" and "Li Calò". From the
near village of Juri, groups of people arrived here and the population
increased a lot. In the urban centre you can visit the Church of St. Ludovico,
that was commissioned by a wealthy doctor from Gallipoli, Antonio Micetti. The
main façade is well decorated and it has a beautiful portal. Inside you can
admire some elegant altars and paintings representing holy scenes. In 1968 the
Church of the Immaculate was built and, thus replacing the pre-existing one
dated 1930.
