FRAZIONE
OF THE COMMUNE OF GALATINA
Collemeto is one of the three small villages that are under
the administration of Galatina. It was a hamlet made
 of
five farms (masserie): Masseria Balsamo, Masseria Favala, Masseria Mangiò,
Masseria Monache and Masseria La Camara. This last farm was a kind of Town Hall
and Treasury, because the people used to meet to solve the problems of the
village and the taxes were brought here. In case of danger it was also a
shelter. In the Masseria La Camara, there was the Church of St Mary of Collemeto
with the signs of the pre-existing frescos. The parish church of Collemeto was
built in 1930 on a pre-existing church and the priest Salvatore Meli asked the
Duce for money.
