OF THE COMMUNE OF TRICASE
Depressa is a
small village under the administration of Tricase. We are not certain about the
origins of the
 village.
It was probably founded after the destruction of Seletum by the Turks in 15th
century. The village was ruled by the Castriota Scanderberghs, the Saracenos and
finally the Gallones. The Mother Church is dedicated to St Mary of the Graces,
has a very refined façade and a beautiful portal. Its altars are worth visiting
as much as the painting of Our Lady of the Rosary. The Chapel of the SS Medici
is in the nearby of the cemetery and was built in 1645. The Chapel of the Virgin
was built in 1956 and consecrated in 1968. The Castle of the Winspeares is very
interesting for artistic and historical reasons. The oldest part of the castle
dates to the 14th century and a small museum describes the history of
this important family.
