FRAZIONE
OF THE COMMUNE OF CARPIGNANO SALENTINO
Serrano is a small
village under the administration of Carpignano. It was probably founded in the 9th
–
10th
century by those who survived the destruction of a close hamlet called Casale di
Muro. The village was ruled by the barons Lubelli. Among the famous people of
Serrano we remember Carlo Lubelli, he lived in the 18th century and
was a good priest and literary man. The historic centre of Serrano has small
narrow streets and beautiful palaces such as the Lubelli Palace (17th
century). The church of St Leonardo and the Church of St George date both to the
18th century, they are finely decorated.
