FRAZIONE OF THE COMMUNE OF
ORTELLE
Vignacastrisi is the
only small village under the administration of Ortelle. The origins of this small centre are still
uncertain and the
 first
village might have been founded in 1532. Probably the inhabitants of
Vignacastrisi grew vineyards belonging to the County of Castro. In 1536 the
population increased notably after the arrival of the people who had escaped
from the destruction of Castro. Vignacastrisi followed the same fate of the
County of Castro until 1806. Here there are only two religious monuments: the
Congrega of the Rosary and the Mother Church, that probably was built in
the XVIII century and its style is very simple.
