In the historical centre
of Guagnano there are some interesting case a corte, noble residences and
religious
monuments as the Mother Church dedicated to Our Lady of the Assumption and
dating back to the XVIII century. The imposing baroque façade has an elegant
front door surmounted by a beautiful sculpture, two smaller portals and
several refined decorations. The plant is Latin cross. In this church with
nave and two aisles you can admire ten baroque altars well-decorated and some
interesting paintings. The Church of the Lady of the Rosary was built in the
XVIII century. Inside there are the relics of four martyrs and the beautiful
statue of the Holy Virgin Mary. The people of Guagnano are very devoted to the
Lady of the Rosary for a legendary miraculous episode. In the ancient past a
man that possessed a herd of bulls, lost one of them unexpectedly. He looked for
the bull for a long time, until he found it in the wood with a rosary in its
mouth. Then the man tried to take the animal to the stall, but it did not move
from that place. After many attempts the herdsman noticed that the bull was
looking towards some bushes, where an image of the Lady had appeared.Die

Lady who is celebrated on the 7th of October
The nickname of the
inhabitants of Guagnano is "tuttu sennu" that means "all common sense." This
expression is used to underline the lack of common sense of the people of
Guagnano that are thought to be very naïve. A popular story tells that a
farmer of Guagnano was walking in the open country when he saw some men lifting
enormous rocks. He stopped and told them that if they needed some common sense
they could go to Guagnano and buy it at a low price.
