The inhabitants from
Sogliano Cavour have two nicknames: "ventri janchi" and "'mposimati" meaning
"white
bellies"
and " starchy people ". These two nicknames are due to the fact that this
centre might have been founded by some wealthy gentlemen from Soleto who built
here their residences. Their rich houses were in marked contrast to those of the
poor farmers who worked in the fields from the dawn until the sunset. These rich
men used to walk down in the streets exhibiting their cloths and starched
collars. So the farmers nicknamed them " ventri janchi" (since their skin was
white while theirs was dark because of the sun) and "'mposimati" because their
clothes were always well starched. Puoi correggere la versione italiana
